With a plethora of impressive singles being produced at a rapid rate in 2021 in the lead up to the highly anticipated release of ‘Fragments’ in January, Bonobo continues to produce some of the highest quality electronic music going around with his latest glimpse in ‘Shadows’, a haunting yet spine tingling release that sees the soulful tones of Australian/New Zealand artist Jordan Rakei enlisted.

As the name suggests, ‘Shadows’ subtly rises from the ominousness of the introductory period that sees a slight restraint held in the keys and percussion compiled which evokes plenty of intrigue and wonder. With Rakei’s stunning vocals leaving you in awe immediately with their raw brilliance, Bonobo utilises the captivating nature of the melodies to build the suspense of the production nicely with the rising electronic presence and bubbly percussion coming to the forefront. In true Bonobo fashion, ‘Shadows’ takes you on a profound sonic journey that flows through the ebbs and flows to showcase the artistic vision on offer, all while driving the groove home in the latter stages with plenty of polish on show.

“Shadows was one of the first pieces in place for the new record and working with Jordan was such a joy. We’d spent plenty of time together previously. He’s toured with us and I’m a huge fans of his. He was an easy choice as a collaborator. The instrumental existed as a slow evolving throwback Detroit thing. I had people like Theo Parish and Moodyman in mind when I was making it. It’s been one of my favourites from the new album since day one.” – Bonobo
