One of the greatest things about Los Angeles-based artist Park Hye Jin, is her ability to develop infectious melodies with delicate tools. Every single she releases is beautifully balanced and blends innocence with effortless swagger. Her latest single, ‘I Need You’, is a perfect example of this.
The track opens with twinkling piano tones, creating a very dreamy soundscape. Light percussion dances above the tones, like sunlight dancing on ripples of water. Everything feels ethereal.
When the hard beat is introduced with Park Hye Jin’s soft vocals, ‘I Need You’ becomes more grounded. This is the moment where you can hear that balance. The beat doesn’t take much away from the airy tones and percussion, but it adds just enough toughness to make sure the melody doesn’t feel completely rigid, or completely atmospheric.
