Over the last few months Australian newcomer Nick Ward has been teasing us with news of his upcoming debut ep “Everything I Wish I Told You”, while also giving us a few previews along the way.

He’s given us another of those this week with new single ‘Holding The Man’, which as he explains below is about the feelings and emotions that he experienced when coming out to his friends and family…

“This is the third and final single from my debut EP, and I think it might be my favourite. While my previous song, ‘I Wanna Be Myself or Nothing At All’ was about my raw experience of coming out – ‘Holding The Man’ is about the feeling.

Titled after the Aussie memoir that changed my life, the first verse explores the impossible life that I feel expected to lead as a young man – ‘Picket fence / Swimming pool / Baby, I’m the man…’ The second verse is a recount of coming out, and the weightless feeling of getting it off my chest. This feeling is the inspiration for the hook – ‘Please just hold me down / So my feet don’t leave the ground”. – Nick Ward
