After a deliberate year-long hiatus, Australian producer/DJ Pretty Girl returns with a two-track ep – ‘Body Step’ and ‘Satisfy’ – which sees the Melbourne-born artist reconnecting with the club-ready house sound she’s spent years refining, blending euphoric grooves with her signature introspective vocals.
Written across a summer spent immersed in dancefloors around the world, “Body Step EP” celebrates the freedom and connection that dance music creates. It also marks the beginning of a new chapter for Pretty Girl following a breakout few years that included Coachella, Boiler Room, touring with Bonobo, an acclaimed RA Podcast mix and a string of standout releases.
“I have always found something quite profound in dance music: how it makes us move, why it makes us move, and how that makes us feel. When I’m dancing I feel free, and I feel connected to something I can’t really explain. I think if everyone danced more, the world would be a better place. ‘Body Step’ started in a studio in Tottenham last year with a Prophet-5. Then slowly, over a summer of dancing, the rest of the song came together, drawing on so many memories of dancefloors all over the world. I really just love dance music and I love to dance, and this song was made for exactly that.”
“A very important part of producing is knowing what you want, and when I found myself unable to answer that question I decided to go internal for 12 months. That time gave me freedom to go deeper with my sound and to really enjoy making music again, and I’m coming back with music that I feel so proud of, and music that makes sense to me right now.” ~ Pretty Girl
