Twenty years on, “The Warning” still feels like one of the defining crossover records of the 2000s. While indie rock dominated the era, Hot Chip carved out a lane of their own, pairing off-kilter songwriting with infectious electronic grooves to create an album that sounded equally at home in clubs and on festival stages. Tracks like ‘Over and Over’ and ‘Boy From School’ have since become dancefloor staples, but the album’s deeper cuts remain just as rewarding.
Now, “The Warning (20th Anniversary Edition)” gives the record the celebration it deserves. Available on 2xLP and CD for the first time since its original 2006 release (see here), the reissue features new liner notes from Kate Hutchinson and shines a light on an album that helped redefine indie-electronic music for a generation. Two decades later, its blend of warmth, wit and irresistible rhythm feels every bit as fresh as it did the first time around
