Among all the chaos in the world right now, there are often times when we just want to feel small– surrounded by things that remind us of beauty and tranquility. A body of work built on serenity and warmth, Australian producer Ukiyo makes a well intentioned collection of thought  with self titled debut “Ukiyo”. The album begins with “Stars” a driving force of nostalgic harmonies, that recall the early structures of a Flume hit.

Standout single “Something Like This” sees its incorporation into the debut with its hypnotic synth patterns and subtle rhythms. Featuring the profound range of singer Feelds, the track remains one of Ukiyo’s pioneering pop impressions.“Friends” takes a more energetic direction, with minimalistic keys that bounce off of JANEVA’s blistering melodies. A sleek and polished R&B interpretation, we’re reminded of Ukiyo’s constant feat to push his sound with a genre fluid charge.

Understated tracks like “With Me” or “Ryo” bring a striking balance of organic and synthetic elements, complimented by subdued vocals and hazy soundscapes. These layered tones invite the listener to marvel into the elusive space of Ukiyo’s world filled with wonder. With a flawless transition into left field single “Runaway”, the producer is motivated by continuity among his electronic spectacle. Closing track “Dimension” best displays this effort, transporting the audience through a series of layered timbres expanded into a fascinating composition.
