Legendary electronic outfit Cut Copy have come through with a double single delight titled ‘Solid’ and ‘A Decade Long Sunset’ for us all to embrace with arms wide open, showcasing some of the best production that you’ll come across.
Led off by ‘Solid’, we see Cut Copy build from a humble introductory period whereby the keys, arpeggiate synths and a brooding rhythm section set a restrained notion in tact alongside the commanding vocals. This builds into a lively groove, whereby a lo-fi feeling comes to fruition in the percussion with a touch of brittleness on display, as well as the emphatic bass making its presence felt right before the powerful end filled with passion and emotion.
‘A Decade Long Sunset’ builds quite a visual landscape across its lengthened duration, whereby Cut Copy truly meet the title by subtly increasing the intensity and brightness second by second through an initial darkened period in the soundscape. This over time, through the use of soaring guitars and soaring synths evokes a sun-kissed feel amongst the production, and gives the feeling of optimism and wonder amongst the lusciousness on display.
“I wrote the song as a reminder to myself that things will be ok, even when life gets turned on its head and it feels like there’s no way forward. I hope in some small way it gives other people a little nudge forward in the direction of their dreams. Hang in there… we’ll be solid.” ~ frontman Dan Whitford
