Just a few weeks ago, Melbourne artist/producer Eli announced he would be releasing his debut ep in August via Mammal Sounds Records. Along with that announcement also came the ep’s first single ‘Opening/Track ID’, which we still have on high-rotation.
Eli is giving us another taste of that ep this week with ‘I Want To Feel Alright’, which he has co-written/produced with one of his high-school friends DoloRRes, and it is a collaboration that he says has been on his wish-list for a while now.
“Dolorres released his first EP when we were at high school together and it was always a huge inspiration for me. Since then I’d always wanted to make a track with him and now felt like as good a time as any.
It was so easy working together. We spent a few hours writing, smoking, producing, eating, recording, and it all came together quite seamlessly. I think you can hear how each of our musical tendencies creep their way in, kind of a perfect middle ground of where we were both at musically.
I like how the title and even the lyrics can be a little melancholic/reflective. The whole hook of the song is “I wanna feel alright”, but then it’s juxtaposed with this energetic beat. I like tricking people into hearing about real shit by giving them a cool beat to listen to first. Whoops.” ~ Eli
