Over the last few months we’ve seen Dugong Jr take mammoth steps forward in his career, whether that be through impressive singles or supporting Chromeo on their Australian tour, all in the lead up to a forthcoming debut album and finally the wait is over with the release of ‘Good Time Hotel’, a 15-track album filled with some of the finest production we’ve come across this year in this multi-faceted offering.
Featuring recent releases ‘Babylon’ and ‘BURN’, Dugong Jr showcases all the skills in his ever-growing artillery through a wide range of sound and influence within this debut album. Throughout ‘Good Time Hotel’, we are exposed to various shades of colour and energy all whilst staying true to the central focus of uplifting grooves that you simply can’t get enough of, and in doing so allows listeners to escape reality for a period of time and just enjoy the good times on offer.
“People go to the club (or in this case the ‘Good Time Hotel’) to have fun and forget about their problems, and it kind of fits the metaphor for the album, it’s gonna be fun until Monday when you have to go back to work and deal with all your problems again.” Going on he explains, “this album explores various avenues of escapism, and the adversity that has led to seeking it out in the first place. I was going through my own struggles when I wrote ‘Good Time Hotel’, and I learned pretty quickly if your way of dealing with things is by avoiding them/not dealing with them, then ultimately it’s going to come back to bite you.” – Dugong Jr
