Every time I listen to a song by Washed Out I’m transported to a cinematic dreamworld that feels light and airy. On ‘Time To Walk Away’, the first track to be released from Washed Out’s upcoming album ‘Purple Noon’, that cinematic world is a lot warmer, vibrant and filled with Mediterranean-inspired percussion.

It may be winter in Australia right now, but the popping samples, bouncing beat and atmospheric synths make ‘Time To Walk Away’ summer condensed into a song. The light acoustic guitar that dances over calming vocals on the track’s bridge is captivating, and the light percussion is just the cherry on top of this wonderful piece of music. Everything is in sync and flows so organically – ‘Time To Walk Away’ is more like a feeling than a song.

Even though his music is constantly going in different directions, depending on where he draws his inspiration from, Washed Out’s signature atmospherics are always present. You know a Washed Out song when you hear it and ‘Time To Walk Away’ is probably one of his most enticing songs to date, so whatever he’s got coming on ‘Purple Noon’ will no doubt blow us all away when the LP is finally released.
