Josef Scott has spent the last few months releasing a series of great new singles that emulate a sense of calm reflection and nostalgia, all in anticipation for his new EP “Beacon Hill”.
That EP is out in the world today and it showcases not just the delicate melodies Josef has become known for, but also the wealth of emotion he has poured into each lyric.
Alongside ‘Picture Me’, ‘Cold’, ‘Field Of Dreams’, and ‘Again’, the EP also features a new track called ‘Everything’, that blends groovy guitars with brooding basslines, intricate acoustics, and soulful vocals. The track is very introspective and serves as a gentle reminder that not everyone has life figured out and sometimes, you need to stop and reckon with your past, in order to fully embrace the present.
“Beacon Hill is a project about returning home and realising that home isn’t the same, and maybe I’m not either. I never intended it as a continuation of my previous EP Joy Street, but as the songs came together, I saw the bigger picture. Going back to New Zealand after a year of adversity, growth, and change felt like stepping into the past. It was comforting, but it also made me question everything I had worked toward.
This EP captures that internal conflict – the push and pull between nostalgia and progress, between holding on and letting go. It’s about longing, about reconciling with the past, and about the people who shape us along the way. Writing and recording these songs became a way to process those emotions, to understand what home really means, and to accept that moving forward sometimes means leaving things behind.’ ~ Josef Scott
