Over the last few months, Gold Coast band daste. have been building the anticipation for their upcoming album with a collection of outstanding new singles; “Around”, “Colours”, “Atlas” and “Starwriter”
Their new album is set for release in February, and between now and then we can expect a few more little teasers, which they are coming good on this week as they give us their latest offering, ‘River’.
“‘River’ was a really rich collaborative experience. We spent a few days in the hinterland behind Yamba in New South Wales and were lucky to be joined by our good friends Aidan Rahman and Jess Cameron. They came through on our second day and we immediately got stuck in to jamming. Once we had the first chord progression down, we all sort of sat around the living room and bounced melodies and lyrics around amongst one another until the skeleton of the song was finally formed. We knew we’d definitely landed on something special both in sound and song meaning,
As we bounced melodies and lyrics amongst one another we naturally started to write about the idea of love being so wonderful but so scary all the same. Heartbreak can cause fear of love itself and make it hard for you to open up to anyone or be vulnerable again. This song embraces love and the idea of just jumping into the unknown.
Fast forward about three months and we found ourselves in LA working out of Jim Alxndr’s studio where we dissected the track and added a lot of organic sounds to enrich its fun loving, live nature, including the upright piano which definitely brought the initial vision to life.” ~ Callum MacDonald (of daste.)
Aussie fans can catch daste. playing live across the country in February as they support Still Woozy on his Australian tour (dates below and tickets here).
They’re also making plans for another North American tour in early 2025 and they’ve just been announced to play Cross The Tracks Festival in London next May (tickets here) – you can be sure they won’t be going all the way over there just for the one show…
