Over the course of the last few months, Jamie xx has gifted us with some impressive ear worms all in the lead up to his highly anticipated new album, and this week fans no longer have to wait any more with the release of the twelve-track offering ‘in Waves’.
What ‘in Waves’ does so incredibly well is continue to evoke that balance of nostalgia and freshness within each individual track on offer, with Jamie xx utilising the raw foundations held within some of these track samples and providing a seamless transition between the past and present in a luscious manner that takes us listeners on quite a profound sonic experience you never want to finish. As well as this, we see an experimental manner from Jamie xx whereby an off-kilter presence is held in some of the foundations of the release that continues to see the artist push the boundaries of conventional music in an exceptional manner.
