With news of a forthcoming album ‘Mending’ due Friday, December 6 via Believe, Aotearoa-based producer Late June gives us another impressive glimpse of what’s in store with the release of ‘Focus’, a deep-house inspired offering that stays true to Late June‘s chilled/ambient roots.
‘Focus’ sets up quite a tranquil soundscape from the outset, with ethereal pads and synths providing an atmospheric bliss across the mix all while an uplifting tempo is instilled in the percussion that injects that deep house influence that has been a staple of his more recent work. The essence of tranquility throughout ‘Focus’ in maintained across all aspects, including those vocals that sit perfectly atop of the mix and move in tandem with the luscious pianos and warming pads which creates the perfect platform to unwind within.
“‘Focus’ as a song is about relieving the pressures of succeeding and having perfect friendships and relationships in life, and just putting more comfort and love into daily life. I wrote the ‘Focus’ chord progression in my head while staring at the waves at the beach, just at sunset golden hour, purple, golden light shining down with my daughter digging a hole next to me, smiling and asking me questions. I wrote the song late that night, from around 7pm till 4am.” – Late June
