What So Not & Imanu – Slow Motion (feat. MNDR)

Currently touring across Australia and NZ and championing local artists on his curated lineups, What So Not continues to provide us with hit after hit in the form of new single ‘Slow Motion’, a mellowed-tempo offer that sees Netherlands-based DJ/producer IMANU and American vocalist MNDR enlisted on the collaborative front for what rounds out to be a polished production across all facets.

‘Slow Motion’ utilises a darker colour palate in its composition, with a brooding bass line and deepened percussion setting the murky tone in tact that is further heightened by those captivating vocals of MNDR that stand tall and shine very bright amongst the liveliness of the percussion on display. Both What So Not and IMANU manipulate the mix beautifully, allowing plenty of space which further injects that mysteriousness deeper into the core and giving plenty of room for each individual instrument and vocals to have their moment in the sun.

“I met Jon (IMANU) when he was 17, and over the last five years I’ve watched him grow into one of the most respected musicians in our scene. Despite being known for our maximalist productions, we seem drawn to these hypnotic and psychedelic downtempo records when we get together. And of course the droning and lush crescendo of ‘Slow Motion’ would not be complete with the incredible ‘flow state one take’ of MNDR. I still get goosebumps listening to the iPhone recording of her first listen to the instrumental, whipping out the entire topline in one take.” – What So Not
