Australian newcomer Eli will be giving us his debut ep “I Can Be Whatever You Want Me To Be” in August, and he is continuing the anticipation-build this week with his next single ‘One of These Days’.
This is a song about dreaming big and enjoying the journey over focusing on the destination. Eli also reveals that this was initially a quick song to create, but then the refining turned out to be a much longer process. It also sets a much slower pace to its predecessors – ‘Opening/Track ID’ and ‘I Want To Feel Alright (feat. DoloRRes) – but it is only a short reprieve before we dive into the full ep.
“Something a little slower. Not everything can be a turbo rush into a 180bpm four to the floor. I wrote this song quite quickly in a matter of an hour or two with my guitar. It’s a very simple form, structurally and lyrically speaking. When it came to producing it however, the process was a lot longer.
This is a song I’ve had with me now for nearly two years, and over time I would slowly chip away at it on my computer. I would program the drums, then come back to it a few months later and add some synths. And as I produced this so slowly over so long, many different artists were inspirations. I would really love some of Yung Lean’s slower stuff, so I would try to emulate the synth sounds he had on this track. A few months later I was really into Dean Blunt, so I wanted to add some acoustic elements at the end, so the acoustic kit and sax was added at the end.
To me this song is about dreaming big, and being ok with the process of what that looks like. It takes time and effort but the process and the journey is always the best part.” ~ Eli
