It’s been a little while since we’ve heard from Brisbane artist Akurei but he is making a triumphant return this week with a brand-new single called ‘smile ヾ( ˃ᴗ˂ )◞ • *✰’, which is a very sweet alternative-pop treat with its playful guitars, bouncing bass and Akurei’s super-slick vocal layers.
‘smile ヾ( ˃ᴗ˂ )◞ • *✰’ is being released via Sumoclic which Akurei co-owns with his good friend Golden Vessel / 1tbsp, and he’s also hinted at more new music coming our way very soon!
“‘smile ヾ( ˃ᴗ˂ )◞ • *✰’ is a reflection on the tendency we have (or I have at least) to buy new things when we’re not feeling great. The hook is juxtaposed with the verses about some time spent stateside in 2019 which was really wonderful.
