Fig Tape – ‘Boundaries’

Alt-pop electronic act Fig Tape captures the highs and pitfalls of a new relationship on his bubbling new release ‘Boundaries’. Kicking immediately into gear with a sticky-sweet drum groove over icy synths, it’s some of his best production work to date, leaning into his ability to craft pop ready bangers with confidence and conviction.

There’s a strong sense of playfulness amidst the melancholy here too; the post-chorus refrain firing off relentlessly to move this driving track further into dance territory then it’s subject matter might suggest.

On the inspiration behind writing the personal track, he shares:

“Similar to my previous topics, it is about relationships and the art of not pushing the boundaries too far when you are not ready for it. ‘’I’ve been sleeping on the couch – it’s just for the best of us’’ tells you about having an argument, and things turning out so bad that you can’t even share the same bed.  Along with stories about relationship issues, the song also shares thoughts of time, stress, and how everything in life is flying by way too fast, so fast that you never quite get a hold of everything that happens.

I have always been a sucker for great rhythms, lots of percussion and good baselines, and I remember I had this in mind while sitting in my bedroom and recording the song this winter. The first version didn’t actually have much vocals at all, but I just had some ideas that could be cool to put down as a story. I am truly excited to put this song out – it has been a favorite of mine for a long time now.” – Fig Tape
