Korean-American artist SOHMI gave us a new single last month called ‘Missin U’ which also came with promise of a whole new ep that would be coming our way soon, and lucky for us, soon is now!

The ep is titled “Recital” and it is a very impressive four-track collection of her unmistakably edgy sound & style, which she is showcasing perfectly throughout this ep with layers of pulsing beats, ethereal soundscapes and sultry dance-pop vocal tones.

“I really wanted to make my version of a dance-pop record with this project. Call it the ultimate fulfillment of so many childhood daydreams and fantasies. I grew up loving animated cartoon series like Jem & the Holograms and Sailor Moon – I think it was the idea of transformation, and having an alter ego more magical and powerful inside of you than what people might initially see in you that really spoke to the young dreamer in me. I remember always wanting more than what life seemed to have to offer at the time, always wanting to escape my reality as an awkward girl living in Hong Kong and Seoul. I daydreamed instead of riding flying ponies, having a pop star alter ego that nobody knew about, and I also daydreamed about “making it in America”. Eventually, cartoons were replaced by trips to Tower Records for the latest CDs and obsessions with 90’s K-Pop groups like S.E.S, then the entire spectrum of US r&b & pop leading all the way up to Ariana Grande – finally bringing me somehow these last 7 years to underground dance music.” ~ SOHMI (via Instagram)
