After being selected as one of ten artists to showcase at last years Electronic Music Conference (EMC), Sydney indie pop duo dekleyn (pronounced Decline) continue to go from strength to strength with their first release of the year in ‘Only You’, a superb power ballad featuring the divine vocals of Sammi Constantine that pulls you in with its raw beauty and leaves you hooked and wanting more.
‘Only You’ begins in a stripped back manner, allowing those pristine vocals of Constantine to bring forth the emotional context in the early stages with the electronic influence slowly bubbling to the surface and then crashing through in the choruses. Once Justin Kleyn’s vocals provide a contrast to the mix in the second verse, the track takes full form once both vocalists meld into each other in the latter stages amongst the stunning instrumentation of synths and soaring guitars which allows the release to get the powerful ending it deserves.
“This song was one of the deepest emotional songs we‘ve written. It began as a soft, piano-driven instrumental with a hard beat. We then worked with Miranda Ward (Austen) who came up with the opening lyrics which really pointed this song in the direction of a heavy ballad-type song. We finished the song with Miranda and took it to Sammi who sang on the track alongside Justin. The song works as a beautiful duet about the heartbreak of a rocky relationship.
With the help of Hamish, we were able to turn this song into a poppy, sad ballad with a relatively happy tinge. It‘s one of the more complex songs we‘ve ever created and we‘re super excited to have it out there!” – dekleyn
