Australian producer Beso Palma has teamed up with Sydney-based/Spanish artist ANGE for a new single titled ‘Madrugada’ which is just absolutely beautiful.
Beso Palma has created this lush bed of soft beats and padded instrumentals that welcome their combined vocals with open arms. To top things off the lyrics are all in ANGE’s native tongue, and for this being Beso’s first time singing in Spanish, he’s done quite an impressive job of it.
This is really great work guys, thank you!
“When I was 23 I studied Spanish at uni for 2 years and then went and lived in Madrid, Spain with Spanish families that spoke no English. Ange and I had connected through an APRA event a couple years later. We wrote a song in English around that time but nothing fully resonated with us. It was only last year that we decided to reconnect and write something in spanish. That’s how we ended up with ‘Madrugada’, an intentional blend of our two styles whilst incorporating traditional Spanish percussion (palmas, castanets). There’s not a lot of Spanish/Latin music coming out of Australia at the moment and it’s definitely something we want to introduce more of.
The song explores the feeling of unspoken chemistry between two people. Ange and I really tried to emulate that cloud-like feeling of infatuation by sampling a Harp. The chorus, however, digs deeper and questions the progression of the relationship, asking; “What do you really want out of this?” or “Where do you see this going?” This was how the title ‘Madrugada’ (‘dawn’ in english) came about.
“Que me levanten tus besos de madrugada” which means “I hope I’m woken up by your kisses in the early morning”. ~ Beso Palma
