Melbourne artist Brambles will be releasing a new album in November titled “Mirror”, and this week she is giving us the first taste of what we can expect with the invigorating and vibrant sounds of new single ‘Wing’.
The song also comes with a 3D animated visual accompaniment, courtesy of Chris Domeny, which adds a whole other level to the listening experience on this one.
Brambles delves into the evolution of her sound and style below, which she reveals started out using a fairly unusual tool for editing music…
“At a young age my grandfather would let us play with his collection of instruments while he made up songs about me and my brother on the electric organ. This inspired me to begin my own musical journey through learning to play the guitar, piano and saxophone in primary school. I eventually borrowed a friend’s copy of ‘MTV Music Generator’ for PS1 which was basically a super simplified DAW with cheesy jungle and dnb samples. It was a slow process using the playstation controller to edit melodies but it felt like magic at the time. I got into proper songwriting when emo arrived in the early 2000s which lead to recording guitar and vocals in old school audio software like soundforge/acid. More recently I started collecting virtual analog synths from the 90s as they have some very unique physical modelling engines, long before modern vsts existed. Now I am spending the majority of my time on sound design and vocal composition using Ableton, Reason and FM synthesis.” ~ Brambles
