Tanzanian/Australian artist Beckah Amani has been living in the UK for a little while now but she’s just come back home for a bunch of headline shows that are happening throughout Sept/Oct (dates below / tickets here), and today she’s also giving us a brand new single called ‘Waiting On You’ which will be seen on her upcoming debut ep “APRIL” that is set for release in October.
The release also comes with a beautifully filmed Jess Colquhoun directed music video, and as Beckah reveals below, ‘Waiting On You’ is a celebration of her rich cultural lineage and is a song about waiting on someone to care about you as much as you care about them.
“Being immersed in a culture that celebrates music from all over, made me feel accepted in producing an afro-leaning track, and I’m excited to share it with the world. The percussive elements and drum rhythms on ‘Waiting On You’ were influenced by Burundian drumming. It was really important to me to tap into my heritage for this track and be proud of this musical root.
‘Waiting On You’ is about waiting on someone to care about you as much as you care about them. The song hinges on the lyrics “what will it take for you to care”; it really sucks being in a position where you give so much of yourself but you don’t receive the same energy back. You waste so much time waiting to be noticed but you never do.” ~ Beckah Amani
