Back in 2021 SG Lewis gave us his debut album “times” which I still play through at least once a week. Needless to say I am a bit of a fan and I was very excited to see two brand-new tracks pop up on his channels today!
“Missing You” and “Something About Your Love” both have this nostalgic disco-electro-pop sound and style that is so very easy to enjoy, and as he reveals below, they are a bit of a homage to one of his favourite bands, Daft Punk.
“Conceptually, “Missing You” felt like the perfect introduction. It’s a story about temptation and dwindling fear. Your eyes are wandering. It’s no secret I’m a massive Daft Punk fan and “Something About Your Love” is the closest thing I’ve ever made to a tribute to them. I was listening to Discovery a lot, and there’s a specific technique to it. I chopped up the sample of these seventies keys and drums. It came together easily. Lyrically, It’s a pure confession of admiration for someone. It’s the perfect contrast to “Missing You.” ~ SG Lewis
