With news of their their highly anticipated debut album ‘Dichotomy’ dropping later this year, Perth duo SLUMBERJACK come through with an array of gifts for us all to enjoy through two brand new singles in ‘Memory’ (featuring Tailor) and a b-side in ‘The Reprise’.
Both singles showcase a dark colour palate, however SLUMBERJACK utilises differed shades within each offering that highlights their mastery of the electronic dance realm. ‘Memory’ takes us on a journey in the initial stages with a playful groove in the percussion alongside Tailor‘s lightened vocals, leading us into an energetic chorus whereby the synths take off with plenty of punch. ‘The Reprise’ flows perfectly on from its predecessor with a noticeable shift in the soundscape to a more haunting tone, with the bass and drums shifting into third gear providing plenty of heat and power.
‘2020 gave us a lot of time to reflect and spending a ton of time at home made us realise that memories are really the only thing we ever have – they’re what makes us who we are. We wanted to capture that feeling of uplifting nostalgia and bittersweetness that comes with remembering the past. We used a lot of analogue synth emulations to get that fuzzy, comforting, warm tone and Tailor’s airy vocals on the chorus really drive it home.’ – SLUMBERJACK
