As the world goes deeper into self-isolation, it is important to keep the lines of communication open and continue to support each other as much as we possibly can.
Acid Stag has launched a new series titled “CABIN FEVER” where we ask artists from all over the world to give us some insight into how self-isolation has affected their creativity and mental health, and also ask what they have/will be doing to keep their sanity and creativity flowing through these difficult times.
Today we’re touching base with none other than Australian producer Just A Gent.
–
What is your current situation; are you at home alone, with family, or friends?
Just A Gent: I’m currently living with some friends, my partner Molly and our dog Ernie.
Have you been dealing with any mental health issues as a result of this isolation?
Just A Gent: For a while there I wasn’t feeling myself at all. My day to day didn’t change so much at the start of it all, but not leaving the studio/house definitely started to take its toll. I feel I was also being flooded with bullshit on social media and that wasn’t helping either so I made an effort to disconnect for a bit and essentially adapt to the new way of life.
What have you been doing to manage your mental state (e.g. meditation, yoga, writing music etc).
Just A Gent: I’ve been doing a lot of meditation. I bought a mountain bike and have been riding that everyday, which has been awesome. I have also been getting more into Virtual Reality thanks to the new Half Life. I haven’t been writing as much music as normal, just been reworking older stuff and then occasionally jotting ideas down when they come to me.
Have you tried collaborating with other artists online, and if that is a yes, do you feel this has helped you feel less isolated & confined
Just A Gent: Yeah I’ve been collaborating with friends online since I started making music and have been doing a few collaborations since being in iso. It’s definitely helpful even just chatting to friends via Discord or Zoom or whatever. It is just a nice reminder that there are other people still out there haha.
Do you have any words of wisdom that you would like to share with fellow artists and your fans?
Just A Gent: Stay positive, make time for yourself and exercise your body and your brain.
What is your go-to track for ‘Feeling Good’?
Just A Gent: My Current go to song is ‘Enough For You’ by Lani Rose and it’s a damn tune by one of the most talented people I know, suss it!
While you’re at it, make sure you check out Just A Gent‘s latest release ‘Geekin’ (featuring Yvng Jalapeño and Nerve) which is out now via DIM MAK.
