CABIN FEVER with SLUMBERJACK

As the world goes deeper into self-isolation, it is important to keep the lines of communication open and continue to support each other as much as we possibly can.

Acid Stag has launched a new series titled “CABIN FEVER” where we ask artists from all over the world to give us some insight into how self-isolation has affected their creativity and mental health, and also ask what they have/will be doing to keep their sanity and creativity flowing through these difficult times.

Today we continue our series by checking in with Australian electronic music duo SLUMBERJACK!

What is your current situation; are you at home alone, with family, or friends?
Staying at home with my family back in Australia – we were supposed to be going back to LA for a whole run of US shows but those plans obviously changed! It’s definitely nice having a household of people around during isolation.

Have you been dealing with any mental health issues as a result of this isolation?
Thankfully no – I’m almost ashamed to admit that my isolation lifestyle doesn’t look thaaat different to my regular lifestyle as I’m used to working from a home studio. There’s obviously the massive downside of not getting to see my friends, but we make a pretty good effort to chat online. We’ve found online versions of our fav board games and try to play regularly just to catch up.

What have you been doing to manage your mental state (e.g. meditation, yoga, writing music etc).
Meditation has definitely become an important part of my day. I started about 2 years ago, just after we moved to the States, using the Calm app but have since moved onto Sam Harris’ program called Waking Up. It’s still mindfulness but there a strong focus on the nature on consciousness which I find really intriguing to explore. If I’m feeling a little off, or getting caught up in something insignificant, it’s nice to be able to take step back and re-evaluate my mental state.

Have you tried collaborating with other artists online, and if that is a yes, do you feel this has helped you feel less isolated & confined?
We’re just starting to do this now! We’ve traded some demo’s with a bunch of artists that we’ve been excited about for a while so really looking forward to diving into those.

Do you have any words of wisdom that you would like to share with fellow artists and your fans?
Not sure I’ve reached giving ‘words of wisdom’ levels of wise-ness in life yet BUT I will take the chance one more time to preach the power of meditation practice and learning how your mind works.

What is your Go-To song right now?
Elixir – Tourist
