As the world goes deeper into self-isolation, it is important to keep the lines of communication open and continue to support each other as much as we possibly can.
Acid Stag has launched a new series titled “CABIN FEVER” where we ask artists from all over the world to give us some insight into how self-isolation has affected their creativity and mental health, and also ask what they have/will be doing to keep their sanity and creativity flowing through these difficult times.
Today instalment stars no other than Sydney electronic duo Midnight Pool Party!

What is your current situation; are you at home alone, with family, or friends?
MPP: I’m currently living with my family at home, and I am also working my day job from home.
Have you been dealing with any mental health issues as a result of this isolation?
MPP: Yes, totally. I’ve dealt with mental issues in the past, and being in isolation is bringing up old triggers of anxiety and a lot of over thinking.
What have you been doing to manage your mental state (e.g. meditation, yoga, writing music etc).
MPP: I’m exercising at home and going for runs. I think it’s important to still leave your house and get some air. I have been writing music everyday, but its exhausting being in the same place that you have to work your day job then try to be creative. Even if you work in different rooms. The days and time and spaces sometime blur into each other and it’s hard to find inspiration. Not only that, the general vibe from every thing you see on TV, on the internet and things that are happening to your friends and loved ones (eg: people losing jobs or getting sick) definitely affects your mental state too
Have you tried collaborating with other artists online, and if that is a yes, do you feel this has helped you feel less isolated & confined?
MPP: It’s always been on the cards for us to work with others. But trying to create in general at the moment has definitely been affected being in isolation. I’m personally the type of person to vibe with someone in the room, and build momentum, and I thrive on reactions and feedback in the moment and feeling like we’re on the same page with ideas.
Do you have any words of wisdom that you would like to share with fellow artists and your fans?
MPP: The biggest mantra I have had through out all the years of making and writing music, is NEVER EVER STOP. The moment you STOP, is the moment you push yourself further from releasing your next song. All the songs we have been happy with and have released have all just come from that “AH-HA!, OK WE HAVE SOMETHING HERE! THIS COULD WORK moments. But those “AH-HA!” moments, you can’t force or plan. They just HAPPEN after months of trying different ideas, melodies, beats and pushing yourself into different directions. So DON’T EVER STOP.
What is your Go-To song right now?
MPP: Go-to song right now is “Say So” Doja Cat – It’s so funky and sassy and is just fun to listen to and she’s killing it right now too.
