Silk City – ‘Electricity’ (ft. Dua Lipa)

The dream production duo of Diplo and Mark Ronson continue their dominance of the electronic world with Silk City’s latest ‘Electricity’, which features the stardom of Dua Lipa for an uplifting dance track full of the appreciation of love and romance.

Starting off with simply the lush sounding piano, ‘Electricity’ incepts with minimal instrumentation that creates significant room for the husky vocals of Dua Lipa to captivate with her playful melodies. Silk City subtly build the intensity with careful use of the deep bass and succinct claps that shapes into an emphatic chorus that is driven through a grooving percussion and the rich vocal stylings of Dua Lipa that match the shift in energy cohesively.

The accompanying video is set during the New York city blackouts of 2003 where the newsreader states ‘The city that never sleeps is taking a nap’. Dua Lipa has other ideas and professes her feelings of love through a clever interpretive dance bracket that results in surges of electricity in and out of the apartment that attract the attention of neighbours. Meanwhile, as the inner electricity of Dua Lipa is being showcased, Diplo and Mark Ronson are trapped in the lift whilst the party takes off. As the song reaches its climax, we see the apartment turned into a rave atmosphere where Dua Lipa captures the force throughout until the morning after kicks in.
