Ólafur Arnalds has announced his fourth solo album, ‘re:member’, out on Mercury Kx later this year in August, with ‘unfold’ ft. SOHN as the first taster.
The album promises to be a unique body of work as it will feature Ólafur’s ground-breaking new software, Stratus, which transforms a piano into a two self-playing, semi-generative player piano, which is triggered by a central piano played by Ólafur. The custom-built software is born out of two years of work by the composer and audio developer, Halldór Eldjárn, and will allow for unexpected harmonies and more complexity to Ólafur’s already haunting sound.
“This is my breaking out-of-a-shell album. It’s me taking the raw influences that I have from all these different musical genres and not filtering them. It explores the creative process and how one can manipulate that to get out of the circle of expectations and habit.” — Ólafur Arnalds.
The first cut from the album, ‘unfold’ with British singer and songwriter SOHN, is an atmospheric journey of reawakening, setting the tone for the album.
Ólafur Arnalds has also announced a world tour for the album however dates for Australia have not been announced yet, so stay tuned.
