‘Mind’ is the new track from the forward-thinking, experimental pop-duo Black Grapefruit, formerly known as SOS.
The track is an exuberant standout with pop immediacy and inventiveness to spare. An irresistible Afro-Caribbean beat carries an instantly familiar array of vocal harmonies, and like most great anthemic-pop songs, it leans into its own catchiness without overstaying its aural welcome.
The highlight of the track would be the diverse rhythm that is present. The percussion is quite fluid and changes more than one would expect in a modern pop song. The expert use of vocal sampling that appears frequently in the wider parts of the mix, is also very enjoyable, and worth paying close attention to.
