Cabu – ‘Twenty Three’ EP Review

Having reviewed the first single off his (then upcoming) EP  ‘Twenty Three’, I was excited to hear the full thing when it dropped. Cabu had already gained traction and praise with his earlier single ‘Crazy’, including hitting the #1 spot on the Hype Machine charts; he is quickly becoming known for crafting head-nodding beats with an infectious vibe.

The EP does not disappoint. It features two new original compositions ‘Change’ (ft. J-Rican) and ‘Try’ (ft. LILI N), both of which help to maintain steady flow across the project. Besides the rich instrumentation, the highlight on this EP for me would definitely be the drum production. The way it contrasts from minimalistic to rich and vibrant, is something that seems to be lacking in modern electronic music.

When asked about the EP himself he said that it “is an amalgamation of what my sound is today and the place I’m at, in terms of time, art, direction and view of the world in general.”

It is going to be quite interesting to see where he goes from here. Definitely worth keeping an eye on!
