Gavin Turek – ‘Birdie Bees’

Not sure why I’m only hearing this new track from Gavin Turek today, but it’s better late than never right?!

I first came across the Los Angeles songstress a few moths ago when she released her “Good Look For You EP”, and was completely hooked by its nostalgic disco-funk grooves.

Gavin Turek’s new single ‘Birdie Bees’ was released around two weeks ago now, and its infectiously smooth, soulful, electro-RnB sounds have sucked me right in, and despite the song’s warm uplifting feels, it actually has a bit of a darker story behind it;

“When I wrote Birdie Bees, I was thinking about how deeply rooted our prejudices are. Whether you consider yourself a “good person” or not, we are socialized to view and treat poor people a certain way, black people a certain way, mentally disabled people a certain way, and the list goes on. It’s scary. We all know the pangs of being completely misunderstood or unseen. Yet, we so easily base our interactions off of our stigmas and preconceived notions. This is my way of reminding myself and others to look deeper, listen more, and most importantly to continue loving yourself and moving forward in spite of social pain.” – Gavin Turek

If you have the time, give Gavin Turek’s “Good Look For You EP” a few spins as well…and if you don’t, make it.
