Sequels are bound to be disappointing. Think “Hangover part II”, “Matrix Reloaded” and “Revolutions”, “Spider Man 3”, “Anchorman 2” (Yes, the second one was very difficult to like). All of these sprung to mind when Carl Cox was announced as headlining Return to Rio in November.

Sequels are hard to pull off, but when you consider Carl Cox has been keeping Space in Ibiza enthralled for the best part of 2 decades, I’m starting to think that Return to Rio just may be the exception – think “Die Hard 3”, “Lethal Weapon 2”, “Toy Story 2”, “Terminator 2”.

A 12-hour set with Eric Powel on the Saturday will be filled with funk, soul, house, and disco. Cox and Powell will be “Terminator 2” good. I would bet my left thumb on it.

12-piece acid jazz band Incognito will be making sure you are unable to sit still. Having played with legends like Stevie Wonder, if you have an ounce of funk and dance inside of you, they will find it.

If that wasn’t enough to get the kids excited, Lee Foss of Hot Natured fame (if you haven’t heard it yet, check out his 6 hour set from Burning Man below which is littered with belters) will be joining in on the fun, dropping some techno, house, and deep house. Other techno-heads will be keen to check out &Me. Other massive international acts such as Bedouin and Hoj means this is going to be a massive three days.

The best part is, with Return to Rio, you get more than just amazing sets for three days. Rio has upsized since its modest beginnings, getting bigger and better each year. This year, you will be able to lose yourself in a water park, a massive jumping cushion, some mini golf, drum and bass pilates, pop up parties, and some killer food trucks. November can’t come soon enough
