For two and a half years I have been waiting for LANY to head down under. Well, not only were they here but they are now a part of the wider Australian music community, and I could not be happier for these guys. They have worked so damn hard over the years and to finally have acclaim on our shores has no doubt humbled them.
The LA-base trio Paul Klein, Les Priest and Jake Goss came out to Australia for sold out Sydney and Melbourne shows in anticipation of the release of their debut self-titled album. This was yet again another hump day gig and the fact these are becoming a trend in my life makes me feel great and look forward to the week as a whole.
I knew Howler was going to be packed out but hot damn, it was packed right from the get-go as UK band Pumarosa dazzled us with their bewitching performance. It’s pretty great for an up and coming band to jump on a tour like this, but I must admit I was left a little bit baffled at the choice. Their dark electronica gave me everything but there was a lack of cohesion within the band that made me disconnect. No doubt they’ll continue to grow the more shows they do.
Back to business. LANY. On stage. In Melbourne. I died and went to heaven. I did see them in LA last August but since then they had been touring Europe and North America, and I just knew their performance quality was going to be taken up a few notches. I honestly couldn’t wipe the smile off my face or stop dancing the whole night, and to be able to share it with two of my dearest friends made it even more memorable.
LANY makes music that tugs at the heartstrings; mine in particular, because they just know how to put into words the feelings that often go unsaid. Their catalogue of music is so strong and I’m not ashamed to admit that I knew every song at this show, except for the new ones off their album, which they treated us to. In fact, LANY has since released the first single off their album called ‘Good Girls’ and I am loving it.
The album will drop on June 30 and feature none other than their global smash hit ‘ILYSB’. For those of you who pre-order the album, you will be treated to their brand new single as an instant grat track. I cannot get enough of these boys and eagerly await the arrival of their new music. Just in time to ease me through tax time too! How considerate.
