‘Dalliance’, the eagerly anticipated debut EP from Sydney duo Midnight Pool Party, sets a romantic soundscape centred on an electronic/pop ambiance that accounts for five unique and diverse songs.
After gaining significant attention in Australia and abroad with the stand-alone singles ‘Stay’ and ‘Disease’, ‘Dalliance’ sees Midnight Pool Party enlist the expertise of Luke Million on co-production duties, providing serious depth to the mix with an emphasis on pulsating bass lines and smooth electronic piano, covered with the silkiness of MORILLA’s vocals that ooze copious amounts of charisma.
If there ever was an introduction that gave you a perfect three-minute rundown of what you’ll be expecting in an EP, ‘12AM’ ticks off every box on the list and is the ultimate teaser of what’s to come. From an abrupt beginning with many synthetic elements at play, the track moves to a funk filled delight that gives all the individual elements their moment to shine – whether that be the infectious bass line, the splash of the electric guitar or the atmospheric synths.
The highlight of the EP sits in ‘This Love’, an honest ode to lovers riding the high’s and low’s that come with the territory of relationships. This track accentuates MPP’s ability to really capture the emotion that lies within MORILLA’s vocals, which is only heightened when harmonised to perfection. The electric guitar within this one draws comparisons to ‘Music Sounds Better With You’ by Stardust, and is beautifully paired with a strong bass line and a moving percussion that give the track real flavour.
‘Waiting’ is the club banger that gives the EP the emphatic ending that it deserves, keeping you at an ultimate high that keeps you wanting more. The track carries the claps and hats throughout the verses into the choruses, where we are introduced immediately to the striking synths and the infectious repeated vocals of ‘Waiting, Waiting For’ that you won’t be able to get out of your head.
‘Dalliance’ marks significant growth and maturity between the production and lyrics of Midnight Pool Party, and sets the platform for an immediate rise in 2017.
