Field Day 2017 – Wrap Up

words by Shannon Morley

Field Day 2017 makes eight consecutive Field Day’s for me – I think it’s pretty safe to say that it is probably my favourite Australian festival.

This year may not have been the typical New Year’s day with blaring 30 degree sunshine that Field Day normally occupies, however with a line-up spanning many genres and sounds Field Day 2017 was surely not to disappoint.

Sadly I was a little late getting in and missed the show stoppers that are Client Liaison, never the less the day was off to a great start with Claptone and Dusky at ‘Left Field’ stage (now positioned in the top left corner taking advantage of the Domain’s beautiful trees to create a forest like stage – great idea Fuzzy!)

After we’d had our fill of house music we quickly jumped over to the ‘Centre Field’ stage for a change of pace, seeing LDRU bring some summery energy and vibes with his electro dubstep beats.

The next few hours were filled bouncing between all three stages catching some bubbly, cosmic synths and hip hop with Ryan Hemsworth, great high energy set from What So Not, and Hermitude showing of their live mixing skills.

One of my favourite things about music festivals is being taken by surprise and discovering new artists. This time was no different and special mention has to be given to DJ Sasha Moon at the ‘Weis Bar’. She played a fantastic Afro-beat set with obscure remixes and great party vibes. Easily spent 2 hours there dancing my heart out – thanks so much Sasha!

Finally finished off the day where we began, back at ‘Left Field’ with Booka Shade. The last time I saw Booka Shade was 7 years ago and it was great to see how their live show has progressed. Playing their unique and timeless sound in a live set was magical to watch. All accompanied by a fantastic light show, Booka Shade was really a treat for both eyes and ears. An awesome way to wrap up another Field Day and begin 2017!

Thanks, yet again Fuzzy for putting on a great event with spectacular artists.

For those who have never been to Field Day, perhaps one of your New Years resolution should be to check it out in 2018, you’ve got a whole year to make it happen!
