words by Emma Rose

Now, at the end of 2015, I have just completed my first year of a Bachelor of Music. Needless to say music has consumed my every waking hour. Unlike previous years however I have been thrown into a juxtaposed world of European western art music, filling my ears with the likes of Beethoven, Dvorak and Smetana, as well as a healthy dose of 20th century elektronische musik and musique concrète.

The album and EP releases of 2015 however have not passed me by. When collating my Top 10 of 2015 I based my choices mostly around what I had listened to most and what I felt exemplified the year for me.

My number one was undeniably Szymon’s posthumous release Tigersapp, which I reviewed a few months ago. This year Tigersapp has made moments better, no matter where I was or what I was doing. The complex intricacies and electro-acoustic vibe of Szymon’s work has made Tigersapp a welcome addition to any situation.

The rest of my top 10 are a collation of brilliant releases from throughout the year, following a similar style of mild-electronica decorated with a few other stylistic shifts.

My Top 10 Albums for 2015 are as follows:

1. Szymon – Tigersapp

2. Tame Impala – Currents
3. Elliot Moss – High Speeds
4. Kagu – KAGU
5. Portico – Living Fields
6. Sufjan Stevens – Carrie and Lowell
7. Lanks – Banquet EP
8. Jungle Giants – Speakerzoid
9. Mac de Marco – Another One
10. Hiatus Kaiyote – Choose Your Weapon
