Cut Copy offer up a unique blend of influence and instrumentation in their brand new single ‘When This Is Over’, a track that fuses organic and electronic influence together with absolute ease and in doing so results in a highly-engaging soundscape.
Taken from their long-awaited seventh studio album ‘Moments’ due for release this September, ‘When This Is Over’ keeps you on the edge of your seat in not knowing what’s coming next as we progress through the gripping duration. Initially swimming in electronic influence, Cut Copy initially showcase the partnership of the synths and concise percussion that sets the tone amongst the soaring vocals on offer. This subtly shifts when we see insertions of the guitars and the brittleness of the drums providing further levels of texture and intensity that works in perfect harmony with the electronic instrumentation, and gives the release the powerful ending it deserves.
“When This Is Over is one of those songs that instantly felt special as soon as it came into being. One of the things I got fairly obsessed with while writing songs for the new album was searching for interesting combinations of instruments, and contrast between electronic and ‘real life’ sounds. I feel like this song is the perfect example, because the first half is so sparse and electronic, then the whole track turns on it’s head with children singing, guitars, organs and flutes playing and psychedelic sounds whizzing past your ears.” ~ Dan, Cut/Copy
