Vancouver-based artist Sleepy Tom evokes plenty of nostalgia and uplift in his brand new single ‘This Thing Called Life’, the title track of his forthcoming EP which delivers the best of the funk and disco era whilst maintaining a modernism in its production that lures you in with its vibrancy and immediately gets you moving and grooving.

In the initial stages of the release, Sleepy Tom builds the tempo and groove subtly with the synth presence doing the talking all while those pristine vocals command your attention with their raw beauty. ‘This Thing Called Life’ maintains its groove and charismatic nature with the smoothened bass line and crispy percussion that ensures plenty of flavour which works in perfect cohesion with the bright and buoyant instrumentation on offer to provide listeners with the ultimate platform for moving and grooving.

“With ‘This Thing Called Life’ I wanted to make a collection of songs that were going to lift me out of my funk. I was looking for music that could satisfy my club cravings, while also leaving room for melody––disco!

Working with Parker allowed me to maintain a larger scope without losing perspective in the minutiae of producing a song. I sincerely hope that this EP captures the essence of our present life––putting one foot in front of the other, managing the ups and downs, and finding the joy in what you do.” – Sleepy Tom
