After stunning us all with a tremendous cover of The 1975‘s ‘It’s Not Living (If It’s Not With You)’ for triple J‘s ‘Like A Version’, Australian producer Wave Racer continues to deliver enlightening alt/pop with his new single ‘Dreaming’, the latest cut from his long-anticipated debut album ‘To Stop From Falling Off The Earth’ out October 29 that carries forth bubbly instrumentation with easy-going melodies that shine extremely bright.

‘Dreaming’ evokes influence from The 1975 with its light touch on the vocal front with a strong electronically-lead instrumentation base setting the tone in the backdrop with a vibrancy evident from the synths and bass combination. With crunchy drums and guitars setting plenty of buzz into the colour palate, Wave Racer balances the tightrope effectively in allowing each element the space it needs to move whilst ensuring a considerable amount of depth throughout the mix which does not impact the overall flow of the track.

“‘Dreaming’ is about the frustrating feeling when you can’t move on from somebody, and they keep popping into your head in ways you don’t appreciate. All you have is negative associations and bad feelings about them, so the last thing you want to do is focus your energy on them, but it’s all you can seem to do, and it keeps you up at night. They haunt you in the most irritating and disruptive ways. You feel jealousy, anger, lust, and contempt all at once, and you’d much rather put your mind to better use. But for some reason you simply can’t.” – Wave Racer

Obsessed with this song! Wave Racer has not been afraid to experiment with his sound, and while his most recent releases are a departure from his instrumental start, it seems he hasn’t left behind any of the lessons he learned from that era. I’m so excited to hear what he’s becoming!
