With support slots for the likes of Hobo Johnson and Tash Sultana, as well as features on the Beyond The Valley, Grapevine Gathering and Wildlands lineups, Melbourne outfit Big Words have been on a rapid ascendency in recent times and have now taken significant strides forward with the release of their ‘Cherry’ mixtape that simply oozes ridiculous amounts of charisma and swagger throughout.

Throughout the ten tracks on offer, Big Words bring forth plenty of influence with elements of R&B, indie and soul on offer with some lively and vibrant soundscapes coming to the forefront. Vocally, this might be Big Words‘ most impressive yet with some eye-catching melodies that flow so effortlessly, and meld into the colourful instrumentation with utter perfection.

“We played with the idea of making a record at home, even though we didn’t have a set up. Eventually the idea gauged some more elaborate thinking and it became very possible that we could start the next morning.”

“It’s heavily inspired by insecurity, solitude, sexuality and friendship. There isn’t much essence of heartbreak here, but maybe more so what happens before and after” – Big Words
