Off the back of his success with recent single ‘Waiting Up’, this week Australian artist LOVER is giving us the next peek at his upcoming debut ep, “It’s A Wild World”, this week with the sweet sounds of new single ‘Spiders’.

As LOVER explains below, ‘Spiders’ was co-written with one of his mates Maxwell Byrne, aka Golden Vessel, while he was on a trip to Sydney recently, and the inspiration for the song itself actually dates back a few thousand years…

“This track was born out of a writing session at my house in Sydney with Max (Golden Vessel). As we were cycling through a bunch of different ideas Max brought with him, he started playing these particular piano chords which I really resonated with, and within minutes I found the melody floating around inside my head.

The night before this session I had stumbled across this story from Greek Mythology; “humans were originally created with four arms, four legs and a head with two faces. Fearing their power, Zeus split them into two separate parts, condemning them to spend their lives in search of their other halves”

The story must have resonated with me and stuck in my subconscious as the next day I pretty much sung all the lyrics and melody in one go. The song covers the same story but from the perspective of when you find the person you’ve been searching for. All your past relationships and experiences feel like the pathway to this person and can feel like you are free falling.

We mentioned titling it something off-kilter. The piano reminded me of spiders crawling for some reason and the idea of two people together having four arms and four legs helped tie it all together for me – so we landed on ‘Spiders’. Hope you enjoy!” – LOVER

‘Spiders’ is available everywhere now via Mammal Sounds Records and stay tuned over the coming weeks for a ‘Spiders’ music video which LOVER also co-created with Golden Vessel.
