Californian singer song-writer Kadhja Bonet has released a very special cut off her latest LP ‘Childqueen’. The track, ‘Mother Maybe’, is a freewheeling vocal and funk-filled contemplation on motherhood and femininity.

Bonet was trained in classical music, picking up an impressive assortment of instruments, but was eventually drawn in by jazz. She plays all the instruments on ‘Mother Maybe’, from the sprite, punchy sax to the infectious bass guitar riffs.

On writing the song she reflected: “I felt like God. I remembered how powerful women are in this world, that we create life, and I felt strong.”
