Last Friday Sufjan Stevens, Bryce Dessner, Nico Muhly and James McAlister released their highly anticipated ‘Planetarium’ album, and after sitting with it for a week I have to say that it is every bit as amazing and wonderful as I was hoping it to be.

Accompanied by a string quartet and a ensemble of trombones, this incredible collaborative masterpiece features 17 individual recordings that explore the Sun, the Moon, the Planets and other celestial bodies of our solar system and beyond.

“We’ve returned to the question of identity and humanity and human rights, and what does it mean to be a person in our world? What is our relationship to our world, and the environment? What does it mean to believe in a divine being, and what does that divine being require of us? That divine being is often inspired by the cosmos.”
– Sufjan Stevens

‘Planetarium’ is available throughout the universe right now via 4AD.
