Josin – Feral Thing [Music Video]

The latest visuals from German composer and producer Josin is what I call “art in motion”. To me, this video embodies everything about the saying, ‘Dance like nobody’s watching’ as the freedom of movement and expression in these vast, open spaces are as compelling as the beautiful compositions.

‘Feral Thing’ was shot in the Julian Alps in Slovenia, a place I’ve never been to but now have a burning desire to visit. I’ve never seen such peace and tranquillity amidst rocky mountains and cliff faces, and I’ve never tuned into the ebbs and flows of waterfalls as much I did in this video. It’s amazing how much the rhythms of world music, dance and nature can combine and become a powerful blend of art.

Josin was every bit involved in the planning of this video, so much so that she directed, edited, danced in it and did all the postproduction. As far as the camera and exquisite drone work goes, well that was left to Marc Neckermann; a superb visionary if you ask me.

As the video progresses, you see Josin play with her movements and test the limitations of her fears, of which she seems to have none. She is a warrior in every way.

“It has never been my plan to dance in front of a camera for one of my songs, but somehow this idea got its own way. Most of the movements were something I did spontaneously. Climbing was something I had already thought of while creating the concept, but the actual scenery in the canyon was so tempting it became real climbing – still I wanted everything to look a bit strange, uncomfortable, restless, but also contemplative,” she said.

There is so much potential for this video to be developed into a series, or better yet, a visual art contemporary dance work that combines the beauty of Mother Nature and the creativity of Josin. More please!
