Five years ago I had the mind-blowing musical experience of a lifetime as Sufjan Stevens, Bryce Dessner (of The National), Nico Muhly and James McAlister, took to the stage at the Sydney Opera House as part of VIVID Live 2012 to perform an original body of work called ‘Planetarium’, which was in-fact inspired by the solar system and all of its magnificent wonders.

At the end of this show, Sufjan made promise that there would one day be an official release of this music, and he sure is a man of his word.

The ‘Planetarium’ album has been recorded and is set for release in June, it will have 17 glorious tracks all written and recorded by Sufjan Stevens, Bryce Dessner, Nico Muhly & James McAlister, and just a few weeks ago they revealed its first official teaser ‘Saturn’, along with these hypnotic visuals courtesy of director Deborah Johnson (of CandyStations).

“This was such an epic endeavor because the universe is constantly expanding, but we rose to the occasion! It is finished.” – Sufjan Stevens

‘Planetarium’ is set for release on June 9th through 4AD and you can get your pre-orders in now!
