The French just know how to make compelling work, and this video from French producers and directors The Blaze is certainly one to press play on.

The opening moments are so emotionally intense it will bring a lump to your throat. There are many reasons as to why this reunion is such a big moment for the family involved, but it is tender which juxtaposes nicely with the overall rough looking exterior of the men. It also conjures up your own memories of reunions you may have had over the years. It really hits home in that respect.

Moving onto the rooftop scene is such a breathtaking moment as the men dance around freely. There is such a sense of liberation to this, and the freedom of movement they express symbolises, to me, a freedom to be yourself.

The video then takes a turn as both music and imagery lead you into darkness. In the dingy dungeon are men crowded as they watch their leader go through boxing techniques. This is without a doubt my favourite moment in the video because the choreography itself highlights the wonderful production beats. This same unique depiction of choreography is further shown towards the end of the video. In a way, it’s as if this man is preparing for battle; there is a determination in his eyes.

Just the way the track itself builds, so too do the stakes in this video. The sense that something is coming is clear and whether that means there is a part two to this video, we’ll just have to wait and see.

‘Territory’ is a track off The Blaze’s forthcoming debut EP that I’m definitely looking forward to hearing in full.
