There’s nothing like a mid week gig on a sticky Melbourne night to make your humpday that much better. Especially when you rally up a damn fine group of friends to share it with. #Squad

This was actually my first time to The Gasometer and I was so impressed by the retractable roof. Whether it was an indoor pool of sorts beforehand who knows? But listening to some amazing music under the twilight sky was simply blissful.

The solid three-act line-up made for an excellent evening of good Australian music and to kick it all off was Flower Drums. This is the second time I’ve seen this trio and they’re just getting better and better. The commitment and the way lead singer Leigh embodies the music is something quite rare but also mesmerising to watch. Given how humid it was, it was like a cool air of melodies filtered throughout the venue. No doubt great things are coming for this band.

It was a barefoot affair as BATTS hit the stage with her band mates Will Cuming, Hayden Calnin and Lachlan O’Kane. This blonde beauty has such a raw vocal prowess and a sense of vulnerability shines through when she sings. BATTS always makes me smile when she performs, and makes me shake my head from side to side the way she does. She’ll be in the studio making some new tunes very soon and I can’t wait. Also, major props to her as she held one resounding note I’m gonna say for a good 36 counts! Girl got pipes!

It was treats all round as I Know Leopard took to the stage as the headlining act for their ‘Rather Be Lonely’ tour. I’m really digging this band especially with lead singer Luke giving me all of those Barry Manilow feels. With those deep and resonant vocals, the modern crooner mixed with some soft rock is definitely a winning combination.

Can I just say: bring back the string section! Jen on violin was divine and really elevated the vibe of the whole evening. Singing tracks off their previous EPs including ‘Close My Eyes’ and ‘Another Life’ showed just how cohesive and in tune with each other this band is. Vocals were chirpy and floating with the crowd revelling in their latest single ‘Rather Be Lonely’. The evening was a celebration of what’s to come, and it’s looking good!

I Know Leopard has now hit my radar with a vengeance and whenever I see them on a line-up I’ll be there. Lots of love for these guys.
