I have been a huge fan of London duo HONNE for quite some time now, and when I was asked recently if I’d like to have a chat with the boys I instantly jumped at the opportunity to ask them that one big question – what was their first CD?

“My first ever CD was ‘History’ by Michael Jackson. I think it was two a two-disc album and I was obsessed with it. I remember being so intrigued by all the little sounds Quincy Jones used (although when I was 8/9 I wasn’t thinking ‘who produced this!?’ just yet), interesting intros with smashing glass, yelling, talking. It didn’t sound like any music I had ever heard before.

‘Earth Song’ was a favourite on the album back then. I loved how big it got towards the end. Great for singing along to as a kid. My favourite on the album these days is ‘Don’t Stop ‘til You Get Enough’. Possibly one of my favourite songs of all time.

It has definitely helped me with my life in music. MJ songs are littered with funky popping guitar lines, which have inspired parts in many HONNE songs. You might also have spotted the quite evident influence of ‘Beat It’ on my solo in All in the Value. It’s made me think deeply about production, drum sounds, chord sequences, bass lines….everything really.

And yep, I still listen to it. I should probably also add – MJ was also the first gig I ever went to. It was at Wembley Stadium and it is still probably the best gig I’ve ever been to. He had a tank onstage with him – how can anyone compete with that?” – Andy Clutter (of HONNE)

HONNE’s stunning debut album ‘Warm On A Cold Night’ is available now through Atlantic Records, or you can just stream below straight from Spotify.

Honne has incredible talent! Calvin Harris should be ashamed of his new song with Frank Ocean, sounds just like Honne.
